Mount Vernon Printing and Consolidated Graphics takes the security of our clients data seriously, that is why we utilize a top-tier data processing facility located in Houston, TX. The facility is Level 4 compliant, ensuring 99.995% availability. It is built to the highest security levels to secure data and ensure uninterrupted service in the event of power outages or violent acts of nature such as hurricane, tornado or flood.
Running a company with paper at its core – Mount Vernon and Consolidated Graphics are extremely aware of the interdependence and fragility of our world. We consider it our foremost responsibility to operate in ways consistent with maintaining the quality of our environment, including recycling, using earth-friendly inks and doing business with other like-minded entities. In every choice we make, we strive to behave in ways generations to follow us will respect. The following items highlight our sustainability practices.
FOREST STEWARDSHIP COUNCIL™
Mount Vernon and all CGX companies are Forest Stewardship Council™ certified by the Rainforest Alliance. The Forest Stewardship Council™ (FSC®) promotes environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable management of the worlds forests. SUSTAINABLE FORESTRY INITIATIVE
We are also certified through the Sustainable Forestry Initiative. SFI chain-of-custody certification is an accounting system that tracks fiber content through production and manufacturing to the end product. Companies can make claims about how much of their product comes from certified lands, how much contains recycled content, and how much is non-certified/non-controversial forest content.
100% WIND POWER
Mount Vernon is currently offsetting 100% of their energy with wind power provided through Clean Currents, LLC. Clean Currents is a clean energy solutions firm that provides renewable energy brokerage and on-site installation services for residences, businesses, and institutions. Clean Currents brings together renewable energy generators, energy suppliers and end users to deliver green energy options that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and fight global warming.
Mount Vernon utilizes soy-based inks in our production of offset printed material. Soy-based inks, opposed to traditional petroleum based inks, are more environmentally friendly while maintaining quality. Soy-based inks also make it easier to recycle paper.
EPA GREEN POWER PARTNER
The EPA’s Green Power Partnership is a voluntary program helping to increase the use of green power among leading U.S. organizations. Organizations are encouraged to purchase green power as a way to reduce the environmental impacts associated with conventional electricity use. Mount Vernon has been an EPA Green Power Partner since 2009.
U.S. GREEN BUILDING COUNCIL
LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is an internationally-recognized green building certification system. Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) in March 2000, LEED provides building owners and operators with a framework for identifying and implementing practical and measurable green building design, construction, operations and maintenance solutions. Mount Vernon moved to a LEED Silver Certified building in Laurel, MD in May of 2012.
